Animator careers may follow different paths. Animators with a graphic design along with an animation background may be employed creating animated graphics.
They can also start a career in web design and online advertising design. Animators with some film school training can find jobs in movie or TV production. Those with a specialization in visual effects have prospects in entertainment. Animator careers also include video game jobs, as gaming companies frequently employ animators. So do web design firms.
Traditional Animator Career Options
Live action, animated film and video production are using more computer generated imagery (CGI) technology. This opens the way for more technical careers. Training and class in computer animation software is a requirement. Anyone in this kind of job will find math and physics useful.
Technical directors are required to know different applications and operating systems. A mastery of the production phase of an animation project is also a must. So artistic responsibilities along with technical expertise fall into an animator's job description.
Most entry-level positions require a bachelor degree in a related field. An associate degree in game art or media is also an advantage. One can easily find a school or online animation class for learning 3D animation software required by employers. A strong portfolio and a demo reel are essential for animator careers.
Non-Traditional Animation Careers
Careers in animation are increasingly found in non-traditional sectors. Working in fashion design, an animator can create fashion show prototypes. This has obvious applications for fashion merchandising or fashion marketing. Animators can present machinery operations for an industrial design firm.
An animator can work with a photography school to produce animatics for TV commercial research. Animators develop virtual walkthroughs for interior design proposals. These are also produced for a gallery's art management projects. Animator careers for those with some design school experience can also find employment in product development and marketing. More and more, graduates of animation schools are finding opportunities in several industries.
Animation Universities
To prepare for animation careers, universities and colleges offer on-campus and online programs of study. Some of these institutions have historically been known as design schools. A school review shows some of the most reputable ones.
* Westwood College * California Institute of the Arts * Full Sail University * University of Central Florida * Brigham Young University * University of Southern California * Rochester Institute of Technology * The Art Institute of Boston * Pratt Institute * Rhode Island School of Design
Here, class sessions take place in industry-standard studios. These schools offer degree courses in the field. These are some related programs offered:
* Game Design * Audio Production * Art History * Project Management
Animation universities are an excellent preparation. The field of animation is expanding considerably. Animation is associated with so many of today's growth industries. Expect animator careers to be profitable for years to come.
