Animation universities offer specific programs. Each degree program takes a particular approach. Degrees take either an artistic or technical slant.

These animation universities stress the artistic approach to media arts. Program wise, they are 3D colleges.

University of Central Florida

This computer degree emphasizes the artistic approach while developing technical skills. This animation design program explores narrative and non-narrative applications. Each student's individual vision is developed while earning an animation degree.

Students in this animation school learn software such as Autodesk Maya and 3DS Max.

Full Sail University

The university's program begins with art and animation principles such as physics, graphic design, and color theory. Students train to create characters and environments, as well as film and television special effects.

Brigham Young University

BYU offers a program called BYU Computer Science Animation Emphasis. The stress is on computer science fundamentals complemented by visual art courses.

BYU Computer Science Department students have participated in producing recent blockbusters, including "Ratatouille," "Shrek 3," and "Transformers."

Students may also choose seminars beyond animation class. They may join graphics-oriented research projects such as the Advanced 3D Animation Laboratory or Computer-Generated Natural Phenomena.

Carnegie Mellon University

The U.S. News and World Report ranks Carnegie Mellon University as among the top 25 U.S. colleges for 2010.

CMU animation and robotics research have benefited Pixar Studios, Disney theme parks and ESPN.

Animation class
and training are done through the cooperative efforts of the School of Computer Science and the College of Fine Arts. Majors take courses in game design, animation art and technology. There are also classes in computer animation and digital media.
